Monday was the day when I was leaving Switzerland. In the morning I took a train to Zurich airport and spent a few hours wandering there, waiting for my flight. The weather was awful, it reminded me about returning to the real world. It was grey and dark and wet.
After a slightly delayed flight to London Heathrow, I slept through at least half of it, I had another several hours to kill at the airport. We landed at terminal 5 and I found out that my bag arrived with me, which was a great relief, considering the reputation of the new terminal 5. The next task was to find where from my plane to Reykjavik was going. I´d checked online several times and it always said it was leaving from terminal 5. When I got there, it wasn't so. It was from the terminal 1, as I found out later. So I went to terminal 1 to waste some more time.
At 8pm we were finally allowed to go to the gate. The plane was about half full. The flight took just over two and a half hours. I managed to see a movie as there were tv screens at every seat. About an hour before landing at Keflavik airport the cabin lights were switched off. I looked out of the window and saw this big strip of light. And then another one. They were with us for about a half an hour. I don't know if they were the northern lights or whatever they were, they looked nice and gave me hope that I'll be able to see some northern lights during my trip here.
After we landed (at midnight) and went through the passport control, almost everybody made a trip to the duty free shop. It was like a small supermarket and everything was much cheaper. I bought some wine and spirit as I was instructed.;-) Then I met with my friend E, who was waiting for me at the airport, and we drove to our hotel in Reykjavik. After some chatting and making plans about the next day we went to sleep at 2am. I was really tired after about 18 hours and 2869 km (1783 miles) of my today's journey.
