Day 11 - Iceland's weather is showing us what it could be like

I couldn't believe that I needed to get up when my alarm clock went off at 8:30am. I slept like a log and it seemed like only a few minutes since I passed out. I went back to sleep and woke up again at 9am. Unfortunately the breakfast was served only till 10am so we had to get up if we didn't want to miss it. We were almost last there anyway. There was a buffet with a nice mixture of European and Icelandic food. We stuffed ourselves as much as we could so we would survive till the afternoon.:-) I also tried "Skyr", which is a typical Icelandic yoghurt, low in fat and high in protein. It was rather nice.
After breakfast we finally managed to get ready and get out on our first trip. The plan was to see Geysir and Gullfoss. The sky was grey and it rained a little. But I was told that it always rains in Reykjavik. When we got out of Reykjavik and into the mountains it started snowing rather heavily and the visibility was about 200 metres. Not the weather I wanted, I wouldn't be able to take any pictures. Luckily, when we got out of the mountains, the sky started to get lighter and we could even see some sun and a bit of blue sky. Our first stop was Geysir. We managed to see the smaller geyser, Strokkur, burst the water up several times.
The Great Geysir doesn't erupt anymore. The view of it is still impressive though. The next step was Gullfoss, Iceland's most famous waterfall. It was freezing and windy there and most of the paths were covered with solid ice. The view of the waterfall was amazing though. On the way back we had to stop a few times as I was taking pictures. Luckily there were not many cars on the road so it was quite safe.:-) Our last stop was Keriư, a volcanic crater lake. In the evening we went out for a meal to a restaurant called Caruso in downtown Reykjavik. You can check it on http://www.caruso.is/. The food and the servise were excellent, the presentation stunning. I had a roasted lamb fillet with wild mushrooms and parmigiano with baked potato and vegetables. For dessert we had a liquid chocolate cake with ice cream.
