On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Perlan, the city's water tower with the great views of Reykjavik. The weather wasn't the best but had improved a lot since morning.

Then we changed our Skoda Octavia 4x4 for Toyota RAV4 and went to the hotel to pack our stuff. We were supposed to stay one more night and fly north the next day but the weather up there was getting worse and the airlines were not flying. So we set off from Reykjavik at 6pm on a 457 km long (284 miles), and sometimes stressful, journey north. The road was ok to start with, like anywhere in Europe. But as we were getting further from the "civilization" it became narrow, in parts covered with snow and ice, in parts with gravel surface. There wasn't much trafic, sometimes we didn't meet another car for as long as an hour, but when we met a few lorries I was quite worried that we both won't fit on the road. Well, we did. Just. I don't know how E managed to stay awake and drive all the way because I was fighting the urge to sleep at least half of the way. I tried to stay awake, just to keep an eye on her and talk to her but about a half an hour before the final destination I passed out. She´d never driven it before, she'd only been a passenger. But I guess it's one of these things that mothers do when they need to do something for their children. She just had to go back to her children and her fiance.;-) Well, we survived and arrived at 2am, after 8 hours of driving!!
